This is the website of Dan and Ploy. I am a British citizen whilst my wife, Ploy, is Thai. We have lived and worked in Canada, the U.K. and Singapore but we now live in Saraburi, Thailand where we run our own electronics company, (which you can visit here, SingMai Electronics). This website is a compendium of things, places and events which interest us and I hope will also interest you. You are welcome to e-mail us your comments or suggestions or even criticisms on daniel@danploy.com. The site was last updated on 28th July 2010, (Diary)
(This page is a diary of my day to day thoughts and opinions. Older diary entries can be found here, Page 13, (most recent archive), Page 12, Page 11, Page 10, Page 9, Page 8, Page 7, Page 6, Page 5, Page 4, Page 3, Page 2 and Page 1, (oldest entry)). (On this page is my attempt at a book on art history, 'The Four Dimensions of Art', which attempts to build on the ideas of Modernism as proposed by Clement Greenberg and Michael Fried as a method to discriminate between 'good' and 'bad' art....) (I completed an MA in Art History with the Open University in the UK in 2007. In this section can be found some of my essays and dissertations from these courses, including my dissertation for my Masters degree, 'A Tension between Form and Narrative: Rachel Whiteread’s ‘beds’' and articles on iconology and Pollock, Rachel Whiteread and Wolfflin.... ) (This is my art history essay for the Open University A424 course; 'The unusual iconography in ‘The Mystical Marriage of Saint Catherine’ Barna da Siena, c.1340' ..... ) (We lived in Singapore for nearly three years. Here are some photographs of Singapore including Golden Mile in Beach Road, the Thai village of Singapore, Bishan Park, The Chinese Garden, Sentosa, Sembawang, Little India, the National day celebrations....) (Here you can read about Ploy and myself, our lives before and after we met, how we met, our travels together and the countries we have lived in, our families, our cars, our houses and the things we like and dislike.....) (Giovanni Martinelli is for me the greatest tenor of the recorded era: In this section I have gathered all the information I can find on him, Biographical, CD reviews, Articles, Newpaper reports, Gala and concerts reviews and appearances....) (For me the human voice is the instrument that gives me the most pleasure and excitement and I have spent most of my life collecting unusual and exceptional voices from around the world. I am no expert, I cannot read music or play any musical instrument, (or sing in tune for that matter); I just listen and enjoy. In this section I would like to share with you some heart stopping moments from other singers, not just operatic but from a variety of genres: I have tried to include a few audio clips where possible. Singers I talk about include: Franco Bonisolli, Mario Filippeschi, Luciano Pavarotti, Solomon King, William Matteuzzi, Joe Longthorne, Mario del Monaco, Mandy Patinkin, Emma Calve, Ivan Rebroff and Daniel Barioni.I hope you will find the selections suitably eclectic, controversial and interesting....) (This section contains a record of our holidays and life in Thailand together with some, hopefully, useful information and opinions about living in Thailand and trying to learn the language....) (Everyone has a novel in their head so they say, well here are the beginnings of mine....) (I left school at 16 year of age. I knew two things, I didn't want to stay at school and do A-levels and I was good at most sciences, particularly astronomy. So I ended up falling into electronics, which has now been my profession for over 30 years: for the majority of this time I have specialised in video. Having been employed for so long in this field, I rather felt I wasn't doing it justice to not have a page on my website dedicated to it. So here it is.....) (Places we have visited, from Penang to Japan to North America..... )
